A Travel to Kerala presents some of the most famous and breathtaking pilgrimage and spiritual centers in the country. The St. Mary’s Church in Champakulam is one of the oldest churches in Kerala, and according to popular belief, one of the seven churches established by St. Thomas. The feast is celebrated on the 3rd Sunday of October.
Another Christian center famous among tourists during a travel to Kerala is the holy shrine of Chavara Bhavan, 6 kilometers from Alappuzha, the ancestral home of blessed Kuriakose alias Chavara. It is accessible only by boat. This is a shrine for thousands of devotees who gather here for prayers. The beacon of light preserved here is in its original and primitive form.
The Chettikulangara Bhagavathy Temple is one of the most famous temples to be visited in a travel to Kerala. The festival celebrated here during February or March, called Kettukazha is very famous for its processions of tall-decorated structures in chariots where images of horses and bullocks are displayed.
The Karumandi Buddhist center situated in the east of Ambalapuzha, is famous for a black granite figure of Buddha, called Karumandi Kuttan, which is centuries old, and have many interesting legends connected to it. |
